The Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA), the national peak body for food and fibre education, is pleased to announce the confirmation of its new Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 29, 2024. This new board, comprising a distinguished group of industry and education leaders, will drive PIEFA’s mission forward, fostering stronger connections between education and Australia’s primary industries.
The appointments, recommended by a selection committee chaired by Ms. Kathryn Adams, follow the procedures outlined in PIEFA’s constitution. With the exception of Alastair McArthur who joins as a new director, the remaining six directors are being re-appointed to their roles. The new Board will be led by Cameron Archer as Board Chair, supported by Simon Livingstone as Deputy Chair, with returning directors Barry Wallett, Leanne Kruss, Keith Pengilley, and Mark Napper continuing their dedicated service.
The AGM will also mark the retirement of long-serving director Sarah Thompson, who has played an integral role in PIEFA’s development over many years. Her leadership, insight, and commitment to food and fibre education have made a lasting impact on the organisation. “We are deeply grateful to Sarah for her years of service and the passion she has brought to her work with PIEFA. Her contributions will leave a legacy that we will build upon as we move forward,” said Luciano Mesiti, CEO of PIEFA.
“We are excited to welcome Alastair McArthur to the board, whose fresh perspective will complement the wealth of experience that Cameron and the returning directors bring,” Mesiti added. “With this outstanding mix of expertise, we are confident in our ability to continue making a meaningful impact in food and fibre education across Australia.”
PIEFA remains committed to delivering curriculum-aligned resources that engage Australian students in learning about where their food and fibre come from. With the new Board of Directors confirmed, the organisation is poised for continued success in building vital connections between education and the primary industries.
